Barkley Back
by Dennis Ranahan

The National Football League had to go outside the country to find any weather that could affect play on the field. The only venue with rain in the forecast for Week Seven is in London where the Jacksonville Jaguars play their second straight game but will move from Tottenham Hotspur
Stadium where they met the Chicago Bears last week to Wembley Stadium for today’s game

Last Sunday, they lost in London to the Chicago Bears, today, the competition is greatly reduced when the New England Patriots come calling.

For the Jaguars, the question is how much does the competition have to be inferior for them to win? A team that came into the season with high hopes comes into play today with one win in six decisions.

While the Jaguars return to action in London, runningback Saquon Barkley returns to his old stomping grounds in New Jersey today when the Philadelphia Eagles visit the New York Giants.

A first-round draft choice of the Giants in 2018, he was selected second overall while the Cleveland Browns opened the draft while selecting quarterback Baker Mayfield and the New York Jets followed the selection of Barkley while also taking a quarterback, Sam Darnold.

None of those three top picks are with their original teams. Mayfield is running an explosive offense for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Darnold has seemingly finally found his stride while leading the unbeaten Minnesota Vikings.

As for Barkley, he had flashes of brilliance during his six seasons in New York, but only once, in 2022, did he lead New York into the playoffs. That year the Giants opened with a Wild Card win over the Minnesota Vikings. After a disappointing campaign last year, which included a number of injuries that sidelined the talented runner, he was sent to Philadelphia. The Eagles are considered to have a more talented offensive line for Barkley to work with and an overall more talented squad.

Last week, the Eagles narrowly won at home against a highly suspect Cleveland Browns team. Their 20-16 victory was a point spread loser. This week, the Eagles are favored on the road and look to improve their second place standing in the NFC East Division with a current record of three wins and two losses.

The fact that the Eagles have not looked dominant this year, their wins have come by winning margins of five, three and four points, laying a field goal here against a division opponent appears somewhat risky. But that is exactly what we want from a more talented Eagles team in this game, no overconfidence and the opportunity to allow their returning veteran a chance to run over his old team.

The Eagles are one of our money rated plays today, as for the public, their three top choices are the Washington Commanders (-10) over Carolina Panthers, Indianapolis Colts (-3) over Miami Dolphins and Atlanta Falcons (-3) over Seattle Seahawks.

If a Bullet Play develops in the final hour leading up to the 10:00 a.m. Pacific Time kickoffs, that game will be added to the list of recommendations by 9:45 a.m.
